Your Preston County Chamber of Commerce was delighted to have the opportunity to travel to the Capitol and meet with our legislators. This venture was in partnership with Kathy Mace, Preston County administrator; Roberta Baylor, Director of Preston County Economic Development Authority; and, of course, our elected officials.
During meetings scheduled with Senator Dave Sypold, Senator Bob Williams, Delegate Larry Williams and Delegate Stan Shaver, topics and concerns discussed were highways, Marcellus Shale Drilling, education, TIF, tax credits, and green wood taxation among others. We also discussed the planning of increased broadband throughout Preston County.
We were able to meet with Howard Mullens, Assistant Commissioner of Highways and address some specific needs of roads in Preston County. We are thrilled that we discussed and are in the initial planning of a Preston County Day to be held at the State Capitol early next year.
We attended a luncheon held by the Preservation Alliance where we also met with chamber member Michael Mills of Mills Group. All felt that the day was a huge success and very productive. We plan to make a visit of this nature to our Capitol more often in the future.

The Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee with WVU Coach Bob Huggins.
Members of the Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee, Inc. were honored to be invited to attend the 2009 Annual Reception. However, never in our wildest dreams did we believe we would receive the most prestigious Star of Industry Award for Preston County. This award will give us impetus to continue working hard to make Rowlesburg, West Virginia a destination for tourists and to fulfill our goal of striving to revive and add where necessary to the economic, historic, cultural artistic and educational life of the community.
Our organization truly believes we can provide opportunities in this area for tourism and at the same time retain the historical integrity of our area and the State of West Virginia. Rowlesburg has a rich Civil War history and railroad history and we are proud to be the home of the famous Tray Run Bridge which is featured on the back of the West Virginia State Seal. In addition we now present the world class Greatest Generation World War II Museum which is housed in the Szilagyi Center. This is a major tourist attraction and we invite and encourage visits to this special exhibit. Also we invite everyone to be present for our annual Labor Day Ox Roast and the Second Annual West Virginia American Chestnut Festival which takes place on October 11, 2009.
We truly thank you for your hard work and confidence in us to bestow the Star of Industry Award to our organization. We will continue to work hard to make you proud of us and deserving of your trust.
Sincerely,
Shirley Hartley, Chairman
Rowlesburg Revitalization Committee, Inc.

Your Preston County Chamber of Commerces has me recently with Karen Friel of the SBA concerning how the SBA can best services the needs of our Chamber members. Please take a moment to read the following information provided by the SBA.
If ever there is a time to understand the role of SBA -- it's now. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed by President Obama, will have a significant impact on West Virginia's small business community by helping to unlock credit and create jobs. SBA becomes part of the solution, making it easier and less expensive for lenders to put capital in the hands of more small businesses.
Our mission is to help you start, grow and succeed in small business. We are able to accomplish this task through working closely with our resource partners, the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Women's Business Center (WBC) to deliver SBA programs and services which include: Counseling and Technical Assistance; Financial Programs; Government Contracting Opportunities; International Trade; and Recovery Disaster Assistance.
SBA is here to help you succeed as an entrepreneur!
